We cried over the enjoyment of Devil May Cry, we shed tears of disappointment over Devil May Cry 2, will you fall into a puddle of your own tears, or will you will you be gritting your teeth because of an adrenaline pumping game of Devil May Cry 3? Trust me, you will not be in a puddle of tears. Maybe a puddle of your own piss. Why would I be in a puddle of your piss you ask? Because you may get to excited when playing this achievement.
He's Back!! Well actually he's been there for a while, or.......JUST READ!
Dante stars in Devil May Cry 3, which is actually the prequel to the first DMC game. The story is that Spadra (Dante's father) closed the gate between hell and earth, and now for some reason Dante's brother Virgil wants to open it again. To do such a task has some requirements, one of these things belongs to Dante, so he is invited to what Dante keeps calling a party, and this is one hell of a party!
Gameplay
Did you ever believe that you would be able to run on, walls pull off crazy looking attacks with guns and other weapons, deflect and attack and than take the enemy out with a smack to the face? Of course you can't do all this in reality, but Dante can, and he laughs at our abilities. If you haven't heard, there are different styles you can fight with by using the O button in this 3rd person action game. You can dodge attacks and run up walls with the trickster style. Sword master allows you to preform cool and effective attacks with your melee weapons. gun slinger lets you shoot faster and in multiple directions. Last in probably the least used style is the Royal Guard, which let's you halt an enemies attack if you can press the button right before you are hurt and than charge your enemy causing some good damage, it also lets you block, but it still will just cause less damage. You do unlock 2 other styles, but I'll leave those for you to experience.
The four styles you first have can be leveled up with experience. It does take a wile to raise the levels, but they are worth the work. The upgrades extend and give you new abilities to use with your style. Sadly you may only have one of these great styles equipped at a time. If you want to change your style you have to either change it in the beginning of the level, or find a gold statue. At the statue you can change your styles, weapons, buy upgrades for your weapons, and buy items you'll need to survive (like health and LIVES!) You are only allowed to have two guns and two melee weapons equipped which I see is realistic, but I would have liked to be able to switch the styles and weapons on the pause menu, it would have been a lot more convenient. I do like how you can just switch your equipped weapons with the press of a button which results in being able to link combos with different weapons! There are so many different combo's and techniques for you to master and to mess around with. This is what makes this game so fun. I mean it's fun seeing what your attacks do to different enemies and how well they lead into other combo's. With the amount of weapons and maneuverer's you have at your disposal you shouldn't get the feeling of repetitiveness.
In the enemy department, you don't really see a huge variety of different creatures, but there is quite a lot. They usually just have you fight lots of them at a time, sometimes if there are to many enemies or if to much is happening the game will start to slow down, than go back to normal, but still the slow downs are deffinatly not a great thing to have in a game.
Graphics
From the title of Devil May Cry, you'll get the idea that his might be a dark looking game, and yes it is. All of the environments are very dark. Which can suck if you have a glare from a window or something, it can make it hard to see whats going on. When you can see you are treated to a detailed and impressive environments.
I can't really be finished with talking about the graphics until I mention the horrible pieces of crap they pass as cut scenes. I'm joking, you should have seen your face (yes, I can see you! I'm in your window right now!) The cut scenes are great ( I know you looked at your window after I said that.) The cut scenes usually show a lot of action in a sort of matrix style, and the pull it off very nicely. They are very impressive and worth watching more than once. The character models are great. Their looks and clothing all fit the game and are unforgettable. All together it's a dark, but still a good looking game.
Sound
Firing guns, slashing swords, and flashy explosions are a lot of what you'll hear. The sounds of your sword cutting sound itself, the shear power of your weapons shattering the air around you, the sound of your bullet shells hitting the ground after the bullet that has left it has pierced it's mark, these are the kind of things heard in the game.
What kind of music would you except to hear as you slice demons into pieces? How about the sounds of Hilary Duff? Or how about some Ashley Simpson? The would be a no, more of like a HELL NO! The kind of music you will hear is the music you need to hear as you play. It's a surprisingly great mix of rock, goth, and orchestrated music. All the music does it's job by getting you pumped when fighting, and sooth's your spirit with chanting while your not in combat. The music is great and does it's job very nicely.
In most games voice acting is not the strongest card in the hand. That also applies here. They got some great people to fit the roles they were given, but sometimes the words don't seem to fit the mouth movement, and can sound over dramatic at times. Well at least Dante has a few good, but cheap lines, and some humorous ones as well.
How Long You'll be Playing
If you haven't heard, this game is difficult. One reason people say this is because if you die and don't have any lives left (that are bought) you have to start from the beginning of the level. A lot of people don't like this idea, but I see what they wanted us to do. They wanted us to learn from our mistakes to become better at the game, and it WORKS! Well really you just need to make sure your stocked up on Vital Stars (health) and lives.
Since you will die a lot, you will play through the great levels several times (which is still fun since you have so many ways of killing stuff) it really adds to the time you'll be playing. There are 20 levels in this game, and it seems like a long game. Replaying the game isn't that bad neither. You can play on a more difficult setting and still have all of your weapons and skills! Beating the game unlocks great art, sweet videos, more difficult modes, and different costumes. So really this game will keep you entertained for quite a while.,br>
The Rest of It
It's been a while since I've played such an entertaining game! I'm glad to say I played it all the way through normal without going to easy and by doing so it gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and the sense of being a true gamer. I'm going to give Devil May Cry 3 an 9 out of 10.
Good: Very fun to play, great music and sound, and a great challenge
Bad: Some people don't like to have a challenge (and you call yourself a gamer), some slow downs, and the yet improved camera still can be better.
Rent Or Buy: I highly suggest you pick this game up for your collection since it will keep you entertained for so long, and it should still be fun to play in the future.
