Ok, the story, although very realistic, is very hard to fully understand. Some foreign President is trying to cause a war or something...I didn't even understand it much. Anyway, it happens during the months of October and November of 2004...so we know for sure that it won't happen, but the important thing about it is that it could happen. It is entirely possible with the nuclear weapons and technology we have now. The story is that realistic.

When this game came out, 2003, this was state of the art. Even now it holds up graphics wise compared to some games that have came out recently. The lighting effects were stunning. The shadows play such an important role in your stealthiness. There is a few problems with collision detection, but nothing too bad. The lighting, shadows, and environments all make up for that little problem.

The music in the game is pretty good. They have different music for each level of warning. For caution type warning, a little slower and softer music, for WARNING INTRUDER SPOTTED type warning, it will be heavy and louder. The gunshot sounds are great and very realistic. Your footsteps sounds also play a huge role in your stealthiness. Walk slowly or you will be shot.

This is a true stealth game, you rely on staying in the shadows and keeping your movements quiet to stay alive. Your last option will always be to kill. The enemy a.i. is pretty good, they will notice things like shot out lights and loud noises coming from around the corner and such, but they seem to give up easily. All you have to do to fool them is hide for awhile. But this game would be even harder if the a.i. was any better. Did i mention the difficulty of this game? If not, i'll say it now. This game, is HARD. It may get frustrating at times, but the reason it is hard, is that it's a very linear game. You have one set of objectives and you can't do anything out of line or the mission will be over. I can forgive this game because that would be how it is in real life. Even so, i love the gameplay a lot, so i'm not docking many points off. So, not much else to say about the gameplay.

GOOD+ the gameplay is bliss and something you'll only find in Splinter Cell, the graphics are great.

BAD- the audio can be a little on the weak side and the story is completely confusing.

Overall, i give Splinter Cell a 9.5...out of 10.
