Title: Resident Evil Zero
Platform: Gamecube
Publisher: Capcom
Difficulty: Easy
Review written by: Bradley
This game starts out as you playing Rebecca Chambers, on the way with STARS team Bravo to investigate a series of grisly murders occuring in a nearby city. Raccoon City to be exact. Heard that one before? Raccoon City has got to be the most unlucky town ever. Anyway, your helicopter crashes in the woods. You see an upturned police van and find out that the convict they were transporting has escaped. He is Billy Coen and you meet him. You work together with Billy after you find him on a train. Something bad has happened on that train and it's your job to find out what.
The graphics in this game are some of the best I've ever seen. Since Capcom decided to use the still, pasted on backgrounds, they are highly detailed and absolutely amazing. The cutscenes are also very well done. The only bad thing about the graphics are the character animations. They look like walking manicans. Yeah, they're that stiff.
The audio is very well done as well. The music puts you in the mood to play this game. The voice-overs are actually good. There are miles better than the original...which still gives me nightmares how bad they were..."Jill, don't open that door."*shudders*...
The gameplay is what counts for every game and unfortunately, this is where the game falters. The game has not changed since the first one except for little tweeks like the quick 180 turn. This game is a bit different from the other RE games because you now control 2 characters instead of just 1. The puzzles are a bit different from the formulaic style of puzzles from the other RE games.
Overall, i like this game and it's pretty fun to play through a few times, but it doesn't have much replay value like RE4. If you have the money, pick up RE4 instead. Even if you don't, save up the money and pick up RE4 first. After you get RE4, then consider this one.
GOOD - graphics, audio, a bit different from the other RE games because you have 2 characters to play as at one time.
BAD - not that much different from other RE games, screws with the story of RE1 because it's a prequil (play the game to find out why), not much replay value, just not nearly as fun or as good as the far superior Resident Evil 4.
Overall, I enjoyed this game enough, i give it an 8...out of 10.
