Title: Eternal Darkness
Platform: Gamecube
Review written by: Jonathan
Difficulty: Hard
This third person, action horror game tells the story of ... who finds out her Grandfather,..., has been killed. So she goes back to her Grandfather's mansion to find out what happend.
The gameplay is is fairly simple, but nothing to turn you off from the game. The story, as i mentioned before, is very good and quite interesting. The hack and slash battle style is nothing to confuse at all. Just simple one button attacks. During the story, you'll play as several different characters as you read the pages from ... book. The characters you play as take the main part of the chapters. The time periods of the pages refer back to persia , early A.D. to America in the 90's. Theres a variety of weapons. Throw some long range disks, swing duel swords, and hammer the zombies with the slow, yet owerful swinging blade. The spells seem to be the most important part of the game. Collect and combine runes to make spells for health, enchantment, magic, and more. There are puzzles in the game, some easy, and some pretty frustrating. The camera angles arent the best, but they arent too bad. There fixed angles, but nothing bad like resident evil. The scare factor in this game took a big part in the fun i had. It was really scary. There were some cut scenes that would make you flip on the light and cry to your mommy.
The graphics arent excellent compared to today's games, but being this game is a couple of years old, there good. The character models are very good and have fluid, realistic movements. The environments look really cool and realistic as well. And there is much detail in the surroundings, like blood dripping from the walls and moving eyes from the portraits.
The sound took a big part in the scariness. Foot steps, screaming, and loud banging on walls was really creepy. Just walking down a hall way and out of no where...BANG BANG!...It would really make you look around you and just stare at the door for a moment. The voice overs are fairly well. Come to think of it, there actually prettydarn good. There is not too much music but the music there is goes with the mood of the game.
All together, this is a great game that gets good reviewsfrom everywhere. This game is really scary and the audio helps the scariness factor alot. I really loved this game and enjoyed playing it.
I loved it, and I give Eternal Darkness a 9...out of 10.
